Sorry I don't have a solution for you. I'll add a vote that we need one though. I've been using this same messy workaround for some time - either leaving hierarchical pins unconnected or deleting them from the block at the higher level - depending on what works best for a particular design. Allowing the pins to be hidden rather than deleted seems like it might be a reasonably simple improvement to this workaround. What it really needs though is the ability - as you suggested - to limit a power symbol's reach to its hierarchical block. DaveImage may be NSFW.
