It's CDNLive! Well, not today, Tuesday and Wednesday this week at the Santa Clara Convention Center. So I have six things you can do to get the most out of CDNLive and go home with a cute cuddly bear. And, if you are lucky, an Apple Watch or a MacBook Air. Oh, and while you're there for all the swag, we have some great presentations to attend and a great expo. So here goes... 1. CDNLive App The first thing you should do is download the CDNLive App. This has the complete agenda, so you can plan your day. If we need to communicate any last-minute changes, then this will be done via the App. You don't have to wait until CDNLive starts to do this, you can download it right now. If you attended CDNLive last year and didn't assiduously clean up the Apps on your phone, you may have it already. You'll just need to log in again. But wait, there's more. And not a set of steak knives, an Apple Watch. There is a Leaderboard game that you play by submitting comments and photos. At the end of the first day there will be a drawing among people at the top of the board for an Apple Watch. Even better, at the end of the second day, there will be a drawing for a MacBook Air. 2. Cadence Keynote by Lip-Bu The keynotes start at 10:30am on Tuesday. There are technical track sessions before that, but to make sure nobody misses the keynotes, they end the morning. Yes, we live here, we know what Silicon Valley traffic is like. Lip-Bu Tan, Cadence's CEO, will present an overview of Cadence and the semiconductor environment in which we all live, and his perspective on important industry trends. 3. Keynote by Tom Beckley...plus a Product Announcement Tom Beckley, SVP of the Custom IC and PCB Group, will present. His keynotes always ask for a flying car, and it seems to be getting closer. Larry Page's autonomous taxi Cora seems to be taking to the air in New Zealand . But that's still a long way from Pittsburgh where Tom lives. I doubt you can even take a taxi from the North Island to the South Island in NZ. Tom will be announcing a new product, but it wouldn't be a secret if I told you about it today, so you'll just have to be there. The fact that Tom is presenting is a clue, obviously, but I won't say more. If you can't make it to CDNLive, then my blog post tomorrow will cover the announcement. But it will be delayed from the normal 5am publishing time to 10.30am, when the keynotes begin. Deepchip's John Cooley reckons it's a big Virtuoso announcement (see above). Let's see if he's right. 4. Designer Expo...Open Both Days In past years, the Expo has only been open for one day. But this time it will be open at lunch and the evening reception on Tuesday, and also at lunch on Wednesday. So that would be Tuesday from 12:00pm-1:30pm, and then again from 5:00pm-6:30pm. On Wednesday, it is 12:00pm-1:30pm again. Of course Cadence will be there in force, but so will a wide selection of our partners, including Arm, TSMC, ClioSoft, Mathworks, and more. 5. Automotive The biggest market in semiconductor is mobile. But while it is big, it is no longer growing fast. One of the fastest growing areas is automotive. Robert Schweiger, Cadence's marketing director for automotive, will present the strategy in his talk Automotive Electronics Redefined (11:5am in room 202 on Wednesday). Robert will also be in the Designer Expo at the automotive demo pod when the Expo is open. 6. A Dozen Tracks Over 2 Days The heart of CDNLive are the technical tracks, which are mostly presented by Cadence's customers. The tracks are: Front-End Design Digital Implementation / Advanced Node Signoff Custom / Advanced Node IP / Block Verification SoC / System Verification SI/PI and IC Packaging PCB Design and Simulation Only on Wednesday: PCB Design Mixed-Signal Design and Verification Tensilica Processors and Design IP Academic 7. It's a Cuddly Toy Yes, we overdeliver. We promised you six ways to get the most out of CDNLive, and here's the seventh. If you fill in your survey (which you do on the CDNLive App...you did download the CDNLive App didn't you?), then you can take home a cute CDNLive bear for one of the children in your life. Or for yourself, we won't tell. Details Details of the whole conference are on the CDNLive Silicon Valley webpage . Sign up for Sunday Brunch, the weekly Breakfast Bytes email
