RE: odd techLayerProperties "?" and "()"

These are old legacy properties which used to be used in IC5141; I don't think they're used any more. It's legal to have a question mark in the name of a property, and the documentation for techLayerProperties does also show it being used with a layer-purpose pair (a list of layer name and purpose name in parentheses). In IC5141 (CDB) the information about whether layers were translated to stream (aka GDSII) format, together with the layer number and datatype number were stored in the tech file as properties; in OpenAccess this is no longer the case and instead a separate layerMap file is provided. So this is all sensible - you're just looking at some legacy data that remains in the analogLib technology database. You're unlikely to see that in any newly created library (particularly a technology library) unless it was converted from CDB to OA. Regards, Andrew.Image may be NSFW.
